From Desolation
Desolation has four primary classes which are utilised in a multiclass system called the STEM system. This abbreviation stands for Soldier, Thief, Engineer, and Medic.
This range of classes spans from the one who can take the biggest beatdown - the Soldier - to the one with the weakest beatdown but biggest mental capacity - the Medic. You can choose to specialise in any combinations of these skillsets and create whatever class you choose, thereby giving flexibility to the player to mix and match whatever he chooses. The STEM system determines the max skill a player can attain, as well as calculate the base damage the player does in combat.
Soldier: Health Excellent, Mental Worst, Combat Skills Maxed
Thief: Health Good, Mental Low, Thief Skills Maxed
Engineer: Health Low, Mental Good, Engineering Skills Maxed
Medic: Health Worst, Mental Excellent, Medical Science Skills Maxed
On your player score, you would see it laid out in the form of X [S:T:E:M], with numbers corresponding to the amount of levels you have placed in each individual level of the specialisation, with a roman numeral to the left, indicating the total amount of specialisation. For example -
Level/STEM: X [5:3:1:1]
This means that the total amount of STEM is ten, with five levels in Soldier, three in Thief, and one each in Engineer and Medic. The cap for the total amount of STEM a player can have is at 40. That's 40 across the board, or all individual levels adding up to 40.
To increase a STEM specialisation, a player needs to find a trainer. Guilds often have trainers. Librarians tend to also be trainers. There are some other Non-guild affiliated trainers, but these are few and far inbetween. At current point of time, all trainers are accessible by any player, and you do not need to be a guild member to access training protocols.
